Review of Christian Dating sites: Fusion101

POSTED BY WWW.CHRISTIAN121.COM

As promised when I launched this site, here is another edition of a questionnaire into Christian Dating sites.  Specifically, I asked a number of questions about what people liked or disliked about them. To recap, the respondents chose which sites they wanted to answer the following questions on:

  • Is it for Christians?
  • Rate its search function
  • Overall, rate its features
  • Rate the cost of use (Free – Good Value – Expensive – Felt Conned)

When we ran the questionnaire we publicised it on Google, so most of the respondents came from sites that had Google Ads, the main one being Fusion101, so I’ll begin with them.

Fusion101

Fusion101 is a totally free site to use.  Although it has members across the world, most members seem to be based in the UK.

Is it for Christians?

IS IT FOR CHRISTIANS?

As you can see from the pie chart, most people thought the site was used by genuine Christians.  In all, just over 94% strong agreed or agreed with that assessment, which was also backed up with some comments:

“this seems to have most genuine Christians on the site”
“seems pretty good at NOT having non-Christians on it!”

So that’s a pretty big thumbs up for Fusion101 for the main reason people want to use a Christian Dating site.

Search is Great!

Ah well, this is a bit of a sticky point, because as you can see below 45% disagreed or disagreed strongly, compared to 41% agreeing and strongly agreeing.

Great Search?

This question also provoked a few comments:

“I felt that the lack of search features make searching cumbersome and makes me less likely to search.”
“Can’t search people by county – only by country so this is a big disadvantage”
“The search facility is not too good”
“The search facility really lets it down”

There were only negative comments relating to search, and having had a look I would tend to agree: search isn’t great.  There are but 2 search fields: age range and country.  The results seem come back in reverse order of when people sign-up.  Small mercy is that a narrower geographic region is labelled in the result list, so you don’t have to look at every profile.

Cost

At the top I said that Fusion101 is free, and that it is – it even promises to always be free.  Good news!  So who’s going to gripe about the cost of a free site?  No-one, of course.  For some it was the redeeming factor that made up for the lack of whizz-bang in other departments:

“As the site is free, I don’t expect quite the same sort of search facilities and professional look that other sites offer.”
“Always stated free which is great”
“Free is always a good draw, and causes a great deal of forgiveness for any shortcomings.”

Conclusion

Now, one of the big draw-backs of a free site – it is often said – is that it draws in lots of scammers and bogus people.  Even though this may be true on free secular sites like PlentyOfFish, the experience of users of Fusion101 seems to break from this trend:

“There have been two weddings in my church from fusion.”
“this seems to have most genuine Christians on the site”
“seems pretty good at NOT having non-Christians on it!”

If you can put up with the rather poor search and filter options on Fusion101, then I would say it’s an excellent place to start your online dating experience.
